Here we have three works all brand new to the catalog, by a contemporary Spanish composer whose name is probably unfamiliar to you all as well. There is no doubt that Castillo is a composer who writes in an accessible style. The composer writes: "The evolution in my personal language can be traced through a progression of three piano concertos and a concerto for two pianos and orchestra. A gap of eight years separated the first and second concertos, and among the works written for piano in those years, there was one that represented an important watershed as regards formal, melodic and rhythmic technique. the early part of 1966 and was first performed in Madrid on January 7, 1967. I was privileged to be the soloist." The Symphony No. 3 was commissioned by the Seville Electrical Utility and was premiered by the same forces as appear on this recording on May 6, 1994. In it, the composer sought to establish some nexus between the content of the work and the circumstances surrounding its creation. Thus the title "Poems of Light."
