Notes and Editorial Reviews

This is a compilation of music that was performed at the turn of the 19th century, the Belle Epoque in which the artist Gustav Klimt flourished. In hauntingly clear mono as well as more modern stereo, these are all superb historic recordings of excellent performances. The music ranges in mood from dark to delightful but even the happiest works express a combination of elegance and a touch of decadence that also seems to mirror the art of Klimt.

Works by Beethoven, Berg, Lehar, Brahms, Wolf, Mahler, J. Strauss, Schoenberg, Webern, Ziehrer, Strauss, Heuberger, Wagner, Mahler-Werfel, Schrammel, Pfitzner and Mozart.
Artists include: Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Gerald Moore, Philhamonia London, New York Philharmonic, Symphony
