Notes and Editorial Reviews

The Santa Fe Desert Chorale?s Summer Festival 2009 concerts under the direction of Joshua Habermann, took place in the beautiful acoustics of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis. This recording celebrates the very best of three of these concerts and features the music of Britten, Poulenc, Vaughan-Williams and many, many others. From ancient Irish melodies, to Haitian blessings, to Scandinavian calls to the spirit of the wind, their first program explored the myriad expressions of humanity?s concept of the divine. They continued with a concert featuring words of William Shakespeare - excerpts from The Tempest, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night?s Dream, Macbeth, as well as some of the bard?s most beloved sonnets, in traditional, folk and Read more jazz settings. The festival ended with a program of Old World Spanish motets, and then journeyed to the New World with stops in Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela and Cuba.
