Born in Korneuburg, Johann Georg Lickl was active in Vienna by 1785 where he studied under Albrechtsberger and Joseph Haydn. In the 1780s, he served as organist at the Carmelite church in Leopoldstadt and as Kapellmeister at several other churches. Lickl composed operas, a wind quintet, three string quartets as well as quartets for oboe and strings, church masses and requiems. From 1807 until his death he was Kapellmeister in what is now the city Read more of Pécs. His sons were also composers whose works include pieces for an instrument called the physharmonica. Lickl's piano and chamber works were published in his day and the music is engaging and melodious. Read less
