Notes and Editorial Reviews

This album goes way beyond just appealing to students and teachers of the trombone. Chris Buckholz employs a rich, delightful tone and plays on a level where virtuosity seems natural and deftly executed. The pianist, Sean Botkin is also outstanding and his instrument too is equally appealing in tone color. In fact both instruments are balanced and well-recorded. The musical selections, not deep, profound masterpieces but instead showy, fun and engaging, are of the type of novelty music that when played on classical radio, will solicit many calls to the station inquiring where to get this album. This is in part because the trombone when played with such grace and agility imparts a warmth, peppered occasionally by an appealing irony. Some of Read more these works we would expect to be played on violin or flute. Trombone adds a different dimension. Recommended for sheer enjoyment.
