This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. While Polish Composer Zbigniew Preisner is best known for working with director Kieslowski, he's also composed for Coppola's SECRET GARDEN along with documentaries for the BBC and PBS. SILENCE NIGHT AND DREAMS displays the breadth of Preisner's influences, from the bittersweet Romanticism of composer Jean Sibelius to the cyclic minimalism of Philip Glass and Michael Nyman and the forlorn progressive rock of Pink Floyd. (Not so coincidentally, Preisner contributed orchestrations to Floyd guitarist David Gilmour's 2006 disc ON AN ISLAND.) SILENCE ranges from settings for solo voice to full ensemble, making for a rich, kaledoscopic listen. |
