William Matteuzzi was born in Bologna, where he began his vocal training with the tenor Paride Venturi at the age of 17. Following his debut in Milan in December 1979, he won the Milan singing competition "Enrico Caruso" in 1980. Since then he has performed in all the important theaters of the world and has interpreted approximately 100 different roles. He directed particular attention to the bel canto repertoire and especially to Rossini. It is therefore no coincidence that he contributed to the modern re-discovery of Il viaggio a Reims and Ricciardo e Zoraide, and is regarded as one of the most important interpreters of both Rossini's serious and lighter works.
