Notes and Editorial Reviews
About his piece Antoine Duhamel writes: "In 1936, Georges Duhamel published his "Tales of my Garden" which enjoyed at the time a rather prolonged success. What inspired these stories was precisely the garden of his new home in Valmondois, which he acquired in 1925, the year I was born and where I have been living ever since; where, just like my father, I am still writing. Behind the beautiful text authored by my father, there lies a message, about the fear that was invading Europe at the time. A threat was spreading against which our all too feeble democracies could not react satisfactorily." About his piece "Reves nordiques" Hughes Leclair writes: "Huge virgin spaces with all colors of white, wildness of the climate, courage and patience

of inhabitants, imagery of nature and animals of the Great North: here are the themes of this children's tale I have set to music." Laurent Garde, the author of the text of "L'eau d'ici, l'eau dela" writes about this music: "Inspired from native American legends, this text evokes the initiation to the "Kaman" of a Cheyenne eight year old child. Beyond the story, it tells us about the universality of the human duty to grow. The journey is undertaken both in space and time and thanks to a book of tales offered to an Indian child on his eighth birthday. While reading this `awakening path' aloud, symbols of modernity and of ancestry dance to reshape, again and again, some of the founding myths of our humanity. This awakening is manifested thanks to the superimposition and the blending of the voices and the music: the young Cheyenne reveals his doubts and fears; the old Kaman, as an echo, reassures him and comforts him; the music binds together the action and the spiritual, and the children's choir brings the whole into light."
