Notes and Editorial Reviews

Here is a well thought out clarinet recital disc. For the composer Lille Bror Soderlundh, folk music and Bartok were great sources of inspiration to him. This is especially noticeable in the little suite for clarinet and piano included on this disc. The music is a mixture of genuine folkloric originality, playful capers of arabesques, and romanticism. Above all, Hans-Ake Gafvert was known as a composer of popular Swedish tunes, as well as a great deal of music for children. From 1940 to 1949, he also wrote film music. The Fantasy included on this disc is one of his few serious compositions. In it, the definite influence of Gershwin can be heard. As well as being a composer, Eugene Bozza was for many years the chief conductor at the l'Opera Read more Comique in Paris and the director of the Conservatorie of Valenciennes. In particular, he composed a great deal of music for wind instruments, where his pedagogic contribution has been recognized world wide. Read less
