| Grace Moore was a beauteous and highly popular soprano of the 1930s. She appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, in films, on radio and on RCA Victor Red Seal recordings. It was considered a day of national tragedy in America when it was learned that the still-young Grace Moore perished in an aircraft accident in 1947. She has since been forgotten, and some critics have expressed displeasure with the light, non-serious classical and popular material that was Grace Moore's metiér. Moore's recordings, however, tell a different story- she was an outstanding and highly musical singer, in addition to being a compelling and convincing presence in motion pictures. Grace Moore was a special talent who deserves better treatment from writers who look back at the singers of the past. |
