Notes and Editorial Reviews

This CD is no mere compilation, nor a 'best of', nor a commemorative issue to mark the fifteenth anniversary of Doulce Mémoire. Rather, it is an invitation to a journey: a leisurely journey that will give us time to dawdle in streets, palaces, churches, the salons of courtesans, as we search for lost harmonies, for the music that Leonardo da Vinci considered a lesser and unfortunate sister of painting because it vanishes into air each time it is played (una sorella minore e infelice perchè svanisce di volta in volta); a journey in the spirit of the Grand Tour, to form our tastes, to discover new horizons and new parallels between the arts. Let us start from Paris, then take the road to Lyons, the gateway to Italy and to the duchy of Milan. Read more Now let us travel - without undue haste - from Milan to Venice, and stop off at Urbino ... then Florence: a must for any traveller! During the Renaissance there was incessant contrast between laughter, indeed unabashed bawdiness, and gravity and mysticism; let us now leave this Florentine festival and turn our steps to Rome, and specifically to the Vatican during Holy Week. The Grand Tour must of course end in Naples, the city of every imaginable contrast, every fantasy. Where will we stop off next to dream new dreams? There is so much still to be done; our thirst for discovery and our passion for the music of the Renaissance are still intact, as strong as ever after fifteen years of existence. All that remains is for us to invite you to follow us in this journey - and in our future adventures! Read less
