| Christmas concertos by Michael Praetorius, from his collection Polyhymnia caduceatrix et panegyrica, form the nucleus of this recording. Praetorius was one of the most important German composers of the Early Baroque, and made decisive contributions to the development of Protestant sacred music. With his extensive musical and theoretical œuvre, Praetorius shows himself to have been both a guardian of the heritage of the Reformation as well as an adventurous innovator who, especially in his late works, did much to further the stylistic development of church music. - Cantate Records | |||||
