In 1970, Wolfgang Schulz became principal flute of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He was born in Linz into a musical family. After his initial studies in Linz and Salzburg, he completed his musical education at the "Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst" in Vienna. He also studied with Aurele Nicolet. In 1979, he himself became Professor at the "Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst" in Vienna where he taught his own son, Matthias who was born in 1972. He graduated with distinction in 1996 and then continued his education at the Conservatory in Geneva with Maxence Larrieu. He regularly appears with the major orchestras in Vienna.
