Notes and Editorial Reviews

Fabienne Wyler studied piano and composition at the Geneva Conservatory. She completed additional compositional studies in France, Italy and Germany. She is particularly interested in diverse forms of contemporary musical expression, especially from the Viennese school or by composers such as Ligeti and Boulez. Her most recent compositions are marked by these influences. Although music has played the primary role in her life, since 1993 Fabienne Wyler has also created important pictorial compositions, works that have been inspired, in part, by the analysis of contemporary musical works. Her Twelve Preludes for piano retain a strict formal structure while leaving room for a free musical discourse marked by sensuality, reverie and poetry. The Read more frequent changes of tempo and intensity throughout the Twelve Preludes, breaks in rhythm, whole and half-tone scales, symmetrical elements and repetition contribute to the pictorial progression. The variations in the color of the sonorities make reference to the delicate chromaticism of painting. Read less
