Internationally Acclaimed Guitarist Miloš Karadaglic Returns with Pasión, his sophomore recording for Deutsche Grammophon. Pasión features popular Latin selections familiar to many but brought to fresh life with new arrangements for solo guitar and string orchestra.
Highlights among these include Gardel’s Por una cabeza (an Argentine classic heard in the hit film Scent of a Woman) and Piazzolla’s nuevo tango masterpieces Libertango and Oblivion, plus the folk standard Quizás, quizás, quizás. The collection’s solo gems include Villa-Lobos’ Prelude No. 1 (a signature selection in most Miloš live concerts) and beautiful tremolo pieces by the Paraguayan “Chopin of the Guitar” AugustínRead more Barrios, as well as the tango that defines the genre, La cumparsita.
Just as Latin American composers from Villa-Lobos to Ponce aimed to bring the music of the street into the concert hall, Pasión unites popular and cultivated traditions all the way from Brazil to Mexico.
R E V I E W:
‘Let’s just hope his next release gives us something to really sink our teeth into’, I wrote after Miloš Karadagli?’s debut disc for DG (6/11). And the only thing you’ll be sinking your teeth into is the stem of a rose as you tango your way across the living room to the familiar strains of Piazzolla’s Libertango, Gardel and Le Pera’s Por una cabeza, Rodríguez’s La cumparsita and Farrés’s Quizás, quizás, quizás in lush arrangements for guitar and strings, the latter supplied by the excellent orchestra.
Even most of the works for solo guitar have been recorded umpteen times before – though not necessarily better; Karadagli? is a guitarist of superior musical and technical gifts who allows his personality to sing through the music with taste and intelligence. That being said, the target audience for ‘Latino’ isn’t guitar nerds – not that there isn’t much to enjoy here for the most discerning aficionados, such as a fresh, sensitive account of Barrios’s Una limosna por el amor de Dios and a very sexy ‘Mazurka-Chôro’ from the Suite populaire brésilienne by Villa-Lobos. No, it’s more those music lovers who inhabit the periphery of the classical guitar repertoire and maybe own a recording of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez and a couple of John Williams recital LPs from the 1970s.
But [Pasion] is just so good that it deserves the widest possible audience. And, if the truth were to be known, I loved every minute of it.

Wow! What exquisite phrasing.May 11, 2014By Toby R. (Flower Mound, TX)See All My Reviews"I happened to hear the recording of the Villa-Lobos Mazurka-Choro on my local classical music station. I was just carried away by the beauty of the music and the playing. The phrasing was so sensitive and by the time the recording was finished I knew that I had to track down this guitarist and purchase his recordings. I had never heard of Milos Karadaglic but now will be a fan for life."Report Abuse
Debut recording was a hard act to followMay 7, 2014By Tom D. (Long Beach, CA)See All My Reviews"I enjoy Milos' 1st CD, Mediterraneo, immensely and play it over and over again. Therefore I had high expectations for his second release, Pasion. His playing is of course lovely, but the repertoire is simply not as engaging to me as the selections on his initial recording."Report Abuse
