Carl Rutti grew up in Zug, Switzerland. He studied piano and organ at the Zurich Conservatory. In 1976, he went to London for further studies. There he became fascinated by the quality of English choral singing and wrote large a cappella works some of which were recorded and broadcast by the BBC Singers. In 1999, he had a first performance of one of his works at the Proms, London. Today, he is a piano teacher at the Zurich Conservatory and organist at St. Peter and St. Paul in Oberageri. Escorial was formed by Christopher Duarte and some friends in 1986 to explore the repertoire of Spanish and Portuguese Renaissance choral music. largest work on this CD, The Sermon on the Mount, was composed in 1995 and is based on the original Sermon on the mount by Jesus as we read it in the gospel of St. Matthew and St. Luke. Read less
