Some ten years elapsed between the 'Trout' Quintet and the two trios for piano, violin and cello, op.99 and op.100, written in 1927. Completed in November of that year and premiered on 26 December by Josef Schuppanzigh on violin, Josef Linke on cello and Carl Maria von Bocklet at the piano, the trio in E flat major op.100 (D9290) was to be performed again at the memorable concert of his works Schubert organized in Vienna on 26 March 1828, a year to the day after the death of Beethoven.
