The  November 18, 2013 By R. M. (Madrid, Madrid) See All My Reviews "For some unfathomable reason, this recording of Le Marteau sans Maitre had inexplicably never been released on CD. I believe it is Boulez's third; the first two are available in the album "Pierre Boulez & Le Domaine Musical, vol.1" (on the French label Accord), while recording number 4 has been widely avaiable in its CBS incarnation, and the 5th is the DG account with Hillary Summers. Yvonne Minton is very convincing in her vocal contributions, and her lush voice provides the music with a degree of expression far higher than her predecessors. The pre-Ensemble Contemporain musicians (of the Musique Vivante group) are very clear under the composer's leadership, and there is a crispness to the ensemble's sound that permits one to notice every detail of thus breathtaking score. Many thanks to ArkivMusic for making this available!" Report Abuse
