Reconstruction of a Requiem Mass July 20, 2012 By Clifford H C. (Thompson, MB) See All My Reviews "Rosenmüller: Requiem Reconstruction of a Requiem Mass I have yet to be disappointed by any Rosenmüller disks that I have purchased. I have two recordings by Cantus Cölln and now this recording by Cologne Musica Fiata. Each recording is very well executed and shows the musicality and talent of Rosenmüller. The requiem presented on this disk is reconstructed from pieces that Rosenmüller wrote that would fit into a requiem. The missing pieces are substituted with chant. I would like to give more information but the liner notes included with the recording are in Japanese. Cologne Musica Fiata does an excellent job of interpreting Rosenmüller. They do a remarkable job of melding the florid Italian musical styles with the German use of counterpoint. The chant is really very well executed. The chant is moved between multiple and single voices to ensure that it is always interesting and fresh. The only drawback is the liner notes.... you end up listening to the music with no real reference or back history." Report Abuse
