"Written in Janácek's unusual musical style that mixes long, arcing melodies with musical motifs woven into rich harmonic textures, Jenufa is sung without arias. Instead, there are several achingly beautiful musical monologues and dialogues.
The middle of this two-hour 2005 production from the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona packs an emotional wallop. Swedish soprano Nine Stemme is magnetic in the title role, and Hungarian soprano Eva Marton intense as her murderous stepmother Kostelnicka."

- John Terauds, Toronto Star
