Biography

Born: 1972, Nova Scotia   Country: Canada   Period: 20th/21st Centuries
Emily Doolittle is a Canadian composer from Nova Scotia. She has studied at Dalhousie University, the Koninklijk Conservatorium in the Hague, Indiana University and Princeton University. From 2008 to 2015 she served as the Associate Professor of Composition and Theory at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. She currently resides and composes in Glasgow, UK.

She has composed original and highly creative works for numerous
Read more ensembles around the world as well as doing ongoing research in the unusual field of zoomusicology, which explores the relationships between human music and animal songs. She has been composer-in-residence at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Seewiesen, Germany. It is interesting to note that her works do not resemble the music of other well-known composers who also studied birdsong, illustrating that nature's realm of sounds and melodic themes is vast and does not curtail the individual styles and expressions of modern composers.
