Born in 1951, Ed Bennett began playing string bass when he was just 12 years old. He studied with Nat Gangursky, and started playing in a Dixieland band while a teenager. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, and began touring with Jimmy Witherspoon in 1974 after he graduated.
