Notes and Editorial Reviews

During the 17th century, when the North German organ school was in its prime, the big cities Hamburg and Luebeck housed the most magnificent organs and composers such as Buxtehude, Reincken and Tunder. In the small town of Husum, Nikolaus Bruhns was the number one organist. He issued a collection of 17 works for organ, which has come to be known as the Husumer Orgelbuch, the contents of which are featured on this release. The book contains works by Bruhns, Cruckenmuller, Zeyhold, Zinck, and Bruhns. Italian organist Manuel Tomadin performs these works on two outstanding historical organs: the Schnitger organ of the Sint-Michaelskerk in Zwolle and the Hinsz organ in the town of Leens.
