gave him an Amati cello. Performances in London followed, including an introduction to Mendelssohn, who was so impressed by Piatti's playing that he began composing a cello concerto for him in 1847, the manuscript for which has been lost. After traveling through Russia, Piatti finally settled in London in 1846. Years of collaboration with Joseph Joachim in his famous quartet followed. In 1867, he was presented with a Stradivarius cello, which to this day is still known by his name.
