Biography by Joseph Stevenson
Tenor Charles Castronovo began an American operatic career in the late 1990s.

He was educated at the California State University in Fullerton, and gained a contract as a Resident Artist with the Los Angeles Opera Company. During his two years there, he sang ten different roles on the opera's main stage, including the part of Mr. Porcupine in the world premiere of Fantastic Fox.

His standard repertory roles have ranged from small parts like that of Parpignole in Puccini's La Bohčme to Arturo in Lucia di Lamermoor.

He sang two concert performances of Bernstein's West Side Story in Leipzig, presented nationally on German television, and has recorded the part of Beppe in I Pagliacci on the Decca label, with José Cura singing the part of Canio. His Metropolitan Opera debut was the opening night performance of the 1999-2000 season, where he again sang Beppe, this time to Plácido Domingo's portrayal of Canio.
