Notes and Editorial Reviews

Founded by flutist Marya Martin in 1984, the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival (BCMF) is one of the leading chamber music festivals in the US. This recording is the fourth release on the festival’s private BCMF Records label and features live performances from its 30th Season, reflecting the eclectic programming for which the festival has become known. Playfully moving between cultures and generations, the disc traverses little performed works such as Boccherini's Quintet in F for Flute, Violin, Viola, and Two Cellos and Henry Purcell's beautifully wrought Fantasias a 4 for String Quartet, through Brahms' lush and well-known Zwei Gesange for Mezzo-Soprano, Viola, and Piano, while the 20th century is represented by Leon Kirchner's Read more evocative "Flutings" for Flute and Percussion, Robert Beaser's invocations of Appalcia in his "Mountain Songs," and Bruce Adolphe's witty and poetic nod to Bach in his "Bridgehampton Concerto," written for the Festival. Musicians appearing on the disc include leading soloists, chamber musicians and major orchestral principal players. Read less
