Here we have the great Mozart Clarinet Concerto and the great Tischhauser Clarinet Concerto together on one wonderful CD. "The Beggar's Concerto" by Franz Tischhauser is a kind of parody on the 19th century virtuoso as embodied by Paganini. It is no wonder that the concerto starts right off with a massive cadenza, and the Finale ends suddenly and in an unexpectedly modest manner. One could take the title to mean a hidden tribute to Mozart, in as far as Tischhauser gave expression to his feelings of how it is for a composer to be writing a clarinet concerto after the great Viennese master.
