Notes and Editorial Reviews

Villa-Lobos composed his two Sonata-Fantasias in 1915 and they are written in the tradition of the 19th century romantic violin style. The Sonata No. 3 for violin and piano was created five years later. All three compositions belong to Villa-Lobos's early period, though they impress the listener with the professional confidence of the author even at this early stage of his career. Njagul Tumangelov is the son of a famous Bulgarian choral conductor, pedagogue and composer. After his studies, in 1962, he became concertmaster of the Sofia Philharmonic. In 1969 he became concertmaster of the Austrian Radio and Television Orchestra. He currently lives in Austria where he is also leader of the String Quartet of the Austrian Radio and Television.
