Notes and Editorial Reviews

The mature master is really heard in the last two of these six German Masses, D678 and D950, but his rare and seemingly bottomless trough of melodic genius is to found throughout these and all the sacred works, along with a deeply felt religious sentiment if not outright devotion. Marcus Creed may be the best known, but all three featured conductors are choral directors of considerable stature and the performances featured on this Capriccio 5-CD set are idiomatic and authoritative.
