Boris Tishchenko
Born: March 23, 1939; Leningrad, Russia  
Tishchenko is a contemporary Russian composer and pianist who trained under the stars of the Soviet regime. Born in Leningrad, he studied composition under Galina Ustvolskaya at the Leningrad Musical College in 1954 and 1955. He moved on to the flagship Leningrad Conservatory in 1957, and in 1962 he ascended to the top of the student hierarchy when he was offered a chance to work with the master -- Shostakovich. Tishchenko is a contemporary Russian composer and pianist who trained under the stars of the Soviet regime. Born in Leningrad, he studied composition under Galina Ustvolskaya at the Leningrad Musical College in 1954 and 1955. He moved on to the flagship Leningrad Conservatory in 1957, and in 1962 he ascended to the top of the student hierarchy when he was offered a chance to work with the master -- Shostakovich. His works, mostly in conventional forms, include six symphonies, eight piano sonatas, concertos for various instruments, an opera entitled The Stolen Sun and other stage works, and a requiem mass.
