Antonietta Pastori was born in Milan and studied voice and piano at the Milan Conservatory. She first drew attention as Gilda in Rigoletto at the Teatro Nuovo in 1951 and was also seen in Niccolo Piccini's rarely staged opera La buona figliuola at La Scala in 1956. She was a regular member of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, and other theatres in Italy. Pastori, gifted with a pure, lyric soprano voice was much acclaimed at the GlyndebourneRead more Festival in 1957, where she appeared as Elvira in Rossini's L'italiana in Algeri and Nanetta in Verdi's Falstaff.
