A thoroughly schooled and reliable concert pianist, Anton Dikov has a lengthy discography available on the Laserlight label. What at first might be considered the result of many forays to the recording studio proves, however, to be the result of a few recordings, notably the five Beethoven piano concerti repackaged to meet the requirements of a series of "mood" issues. Nonetheless, Dikov warrants consideration as a respected artist and pedagogue.Read more After studies in his native Sofia, Dikov joined the faculty at the State Academy of Music in Sofia, where he serves as a professor in the piano department. While confining his performing career largely to Europe, he has been called upon to serve on piano competition juries both on the Continent and in America. In July 1985, he was a jury member for the seventh Van Cliburn Piano Competition in Texas. In 1990, he was a part of the jury for the Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, and in 1993, he helped jury the Munich Competition. Among his own appearances have been those at La Chapelle Musicais de Tournai, the Internationale Chopin Gesellschaft in Vienna, and the annual Sofia Music Weeks. The five Beethoven piano concerti and a miscellaneous sonata or two have appeared on several Western labels packaged both on three separate CDs and in various Beethoven collections. Recorded by Dikov with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Emil Tabakov, the concerti receive respectable performances, though ones lacking the insights of the best interpreters. Read less
