Andor Földes was a Hungarian born pianist who studied with Erno Dohnányi and Béla Bartók. His 1948 recording of Bela Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 2 is highly valued by collectors, and his selection of Bartók works recorded for Deutsche Grammophon won the Grand Prix du Disque. Földes lived in the USA during and after the war years and later moved to Switzerland with his wife in 1961 due to better concertRead more opportunities. His autobiography titled "70 Years on Music's Magic Carpet" was published in 2004. In addition to this book, Földes wrote numerous articles on music as well as concertizing and recording important works. Andor Földes won numerous awards for his performances and was active in raising funds for the restoration of Beethoven Halle in Bonn. He died in 1992 as the result of a fall down a flight of stairs.
