Allen Schrott


Allen Schrott is an operatic bass-baritone and AMG's Senior Managing Editor for Classical Music, having joined the staff in 2000. He has also served on the music faculty of Madonna University since 2002 and maintains an active performing schedule. Allen has sung a wide range of music, including roles in operas of Verdi, Mozart, Britten, Puccini, Massenet, and Carlisle Floyd and numerous oratorios, but he has taken a particular interest in new and Read more neglected songs and stage works. Allen sang the American premiere of Thomas Adčs' chamber opera Powder Her Face at the Aspen Music Festival -- a role he also sang for the work's New York premiere, and at the Opera Unlimited Festival in Boston. He returned to Aspen for the American premiere of Mark Anthony Turnage's Greek, which is a retelling of the Oedipus story set in London's East End. He was also proud to be featured on the recorded premiere of two French cantatas by Paul Paray in 2007. Other activities related to new music include having sung in workshop previews of John Harbison's The Great Gatsby, Michael Daugherty's Jackie O, and Bright Sheng's Madame Mao. Allen has appeared with the Michigan Opera Theater, The Toledo Opera, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Opera Boston, Opera Maine, the Aspen Opera Theater, the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Illinois Symphony, and many organizations in the Detroit area.
