Biography by Joseph Stevenson
In his native Brazil, he developed rapidly as an oboist as a child, playing a debut solo performance with a symphony orchestra at the age of ten. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, he has performed as a visiting soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and l'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

He won several major competitions and awards, including the International Competition for Music Performers in Geneva, and others in New York, Prague, and Tokyo.

He founded the Chamber Music Society of Seattle and was its director until moving to Chicago to replace the great Ray Still as principal oboist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He is also the oboist of the Chicago Sinfonietta and an Adjunct Professor of Music at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois (just north of Chicago).

His recordings include eight oboe concertos by Vivaldi (Musical Heritage Society and MusicMasters), and the concertos of Franz Krommer and Johann Nepomuk Hummel with the Czech National Symphony conducted by Paul Freeman.
