Biography by Uncle Dave Lewis
Conductor Alessandro Amoretti began his career as a pianist; he gave his first concert in his native Livorno at the tender age of eight. Entering the Conservatory of Lucca, Amoretti earned his diploma in 1981 at age 18, though he continued his piano studies well into adulthood, first with Bruno Mezzena in Pescara and later with Marija Gambarjan in Moscow. In addition to concertizing as a pianist, Amoretti developed strong skills in the accompaniment of art song, as a vocal coach, and ultimately conducting, working as an apprentice to such conductors as Giuseppe Sinopoli and Gustav Kuhn. His abilities took him to Scandinavia, Germany, and the United States, where he mounted the first American production of Salieri's opera Falstaff, and Amoretti developed strong ties with the Drottningholms Slottsteater and the Royal Opera Academy of Copenhagen. He has served as music director for the summer workshop held annually at the Studio Lirico in Cortona and as an assistant at the various operas located in the city of Bremen.

Amoretti has devoted a considerable amount of energy to the revival of interest in eighteenth century Italian composer Domenico Cimarosa; he has recorded for Naxos, Musicaimmagine, and Bongiovanni.
