Biography by "Blue" Gene Tyranny
This renowned Argentinean violinist began his studies under his father's direction and then continued them with Ljerko Spiller. After winning several important prizes, he emigrated to Europe, where in 1955 he became the first Argentinean artist to win the Competition International Reina Elisabeth held in Brussels. The members of the jury on that particular occasion read like a list of contemporary violin masters including Yehudi Menuhin, David Oistrakh, and Zino Francescatti. Lysy began to study with Menuhin. Since that time, Lysy has performed with many great conductors and orchestras, including Pierre Boulez, Colin Davis, Adrian Boult, Igor Markevitch, the New York Philharmonic, the Washington National Symphony, the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, and the Amsterdam Philharmonic. He has appeared at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Queen Elizabeth Hall of London, and Geneva's Victoria Hall. Lysy has toured extensively in the United States, the former Soviet Union, China, Japan, and Europe. In addition to his concertizing activity, he is the director of the International Menuhin Music Academy, Gstaad (Switzerland), where he undertakes important musical research and other pedagogical work. He has also founded series like the Festival Delle Nazioni in Cittá di Castello and the International Festival Pontino. He directs the Musical Recontres in Switzerland and the Festival Lysy in Argentina. He was a founding member of the group Camerata Bariloche, with which he toured the world representing the country of Argentina. In 1971, Lysy founded the Camerata Lysy, which tours with many other fine Argentinean artists.
