If you are looking for something different, this CD is it. Make no mistake about it, Arkady Shilkloper is a great artist. The sounds he gets from the alphorn are astonishing and so very musical. The intensity of the instrument, captured in this recording, is an audiophile's dream and will test the quality of any system. Brass enthusiasts will loose their minds over this disc. The title of the CD, "Pilatus" refers to the mountain of dragons in Switzerland. Festivals of alphornists are held in the Pilatus mountain every five years and bring together from 100 to 150 participants. Today there are over 700 musicians playing the alphorn. Usually the horns are 3 or 5.4 meters long. In 1994 the Swiss craftsman Josef Stocker made the longest alphorn in the world - 47 meters. As Arkady Shilkloper writes: "The alphorn is an instrument of feelings. It arouses in us a sense of timelessness.
