| Here is a disc of wonderful piano music by an important American composer. It is great to see Daniel Pinkham getting some deserved recognition. He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts and studied organ and harmony at Phillips Academy, Andover. At Harvard he studied with Walter Piston and Aaron Copland. He also studied organ with E. Power Biggs and harpsichord with Wanda Landowska. At Tanglewood he studied with Arthur Honegger and Samuel Barber. Finally, he studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. He has taught at Simmons College, Boston University and Harvard. Today he is on the faculty of the New England Conservatory where he is senior Professor in the Musicology Department. Daniel Pinkham is a prolific and versatile composer whose catalog includes four symphonies and other works for large ensembles; cantatas and oratorios; concertos and other works for solo instrument and orchestra for piano, piccolo, trumpet, violin, harp and three organ concertos; theater works and chamber operas; chamber music; electronic music and 20 documentary television film scores. | |||||
