| The heldentenor August Seider was born just outside Cologne and studied at the Cologne Conservatory of Music. His first engagement was with the Cologne Opera House for the season 1928/29. From 1930 to 1947, he was in Leipzig. Lyric tenor roles were his domain during his first two years but by 1932 he could be heard as Stolzing in "Die Meistersinger." In fact it was with this role that he achieved his international breakthrough at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires in 1933. From this point on he began to sing all the heavy Wagner roles everywhere. He retired from the stage in 1967. | |||||
