| Paolo Silveri had his career interrupted in 1933 by service in the Italian Army where he received many decorations and as well, a war wound. After his recovery, he began his semi-professional career as a bass, but upon the advice of Gigli, he switched to the baritone register and his career began for real. In 1950, he made his MET debut singing under Fritz Reiner. He began to make commercial recordings for EMI and Cetra. He sang with Maria Callas and even once sang the great tenor role of Otello in Dublin. He retired from the stage in 1967 and in later years became manager of an Italian Opera Touring Company. He also taught at the St. Cecilia Academy in Rome and the Royal Academy of Music in England. | |||||
