| Notes & Reviews | Back to Top | ||||
| While folks up north no doubt endure a wide variety of moods, recorder virtuoso Michala Petri's SCANDINAVIAN MOODS are pretty good ones, songs of contented people who have lived long lives in a beautiful country and now pause by the water to wistfully reflect upon memories of days gone by. There is a wide variety of music here, some folk, some pop and jazz, and some classics such as Edvard Grieg's "Morning," and Hugo Alfven's "Midsummer Vigil." Also included is Carl Nielsen's "Spinning Top," an exhilarating little bagatelle that sounds daunting enough when played on the piano, but positively astonishing on the recorder where sooner or later one has to consider taking a breath. All of the works are presented in lush, film-style arrangements by Wolfgang Käfer, which further enhace the atmosphere of nostalgia and repose. | |||||
