This fine collection contains excellent performances of all three works--the Bernstein and Copland brashly idiomatic and full of life, and the Harris a very welcome counterpoint to the classic Bernstein/NYPO version on Sony Classical. It's curious, actually, that a symphony that's so generally admired seems to have largely disappeared from concert stages, and so seldom makes it to disc. When this recording was made in the early 1990s, it was high time for a new Harris Third to appear in top-quality sound, and from the opening soulful string threnody to the boisterous central fugue, this performance certainly fills the bill. If the coupling appeals to you, don't hesitate for a second.
