Notes & Reviews Back to Top
Don Nilson writes: "Akira Nishimura's most recent works for violin and full or string orchestra present us with some of the most profound reflections on death and spiritual transfiguration in our time, as well as some of the most beautiful and challenging music composed in the closing years of the 20th century. Meditation on philosophical and religious themes in the act of composing music is nothing new to Nishimura, for such reflections on the cosmos and the human condition pervade almost all of his earlier works and re-engage him as he undertakes each new composition. He always proceeds with images that lead him in the act of composition. His titles are not the product of afterthought, but typically are integral to the composition. This should not be surprising, for he seeks to reveal to us through his works a whole new world in sound. In this recording, he presents us with three meditations on death and transfiguration. He let's us know in his revealing program notes that the works draw on the image of death and one listen through to these three moving works allows us to know that we have much to learn from repeated hearings." 656345990850 Donemus CV 85 "TEN HOLT, Simeon
