An (abridged) version of Sigfried.
This recording was made in London and Vienna in 1928-1932,
with defferent orchestras/condustors as well as some performers.
Richard Wagner wrote more than epic operas; the four that make up 'The Ring of the Nibelung' cycle are complete stories in and of themselves, but together comprise a vast 16-hour magnum opus. This two-CD abridged version of the third opera in the cycle features historic performances from three orchestras and conductors.
Dating from an early 20th century attempt to record the opera in its entirety, 'Siegfried' proved to be too much for any one of these highly regarded ensembles. Each of the conductors keeps to a single, unified vision, and the style of these selections maintains a consistent level of dramatic excellence. Also unifying the pieces are the performances of Lauritz Melchior and Florence Easton as Siegfried and Brünhilde, respectively. The early recording quality cannot obscure their delightfully powerful and spirited characterizations.
