| After a series of 'campaigning' recordings in out-of-the-way repertoire - Bartók/Stravinsky in 2002, Brahms/Reger in 2003, Nicolas Bacri in 2004 - Florent Héau now tackles for Zig-Zag these celebrated Beethoven trios for clarinet, piano and cello. Written soon after his arrival in Vienna, these trios bear the marks of the extremely close relations Beethoven had built up with aristocratic circles in the Austrian capital. They are partly inspired by popular tunes of the time (an aria from Joseph Weigl's opear L'amor marinaro ossia II corsaro in the Trio op.11, the folksong 'Ach Schiffer, lieber Schiffer' in op.38), which here, set in a context of virtuoso art music, reveal new depths thanks to Beethoven's skilful handling. The talent of Florent Héau and his rapport with partners Henri Demarquette and Jérôme Ducros result in an interpretation of these trios that is lively, exhuberant and virtuosic. | |||||
