Herman’s first Broadway musical – winner of five Tony nominations, including Best Musical and Best Score – also produced his first breakout hit song, “Shalom.” The show starred opera singers Robert Weede and Mimi Benzell, singer/dancer Tommy Rall (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers) and the first lady of the Yiddish theater, Molly Picon.
