| Charles Knox studied composition with Bernhard Heiden at Indiana University where he received his Ph.D degree. He is Professor Emeritus of Music at Georgia State University in Atlanta where he has been a member of the faculty since 1965. He has composed more than 115 compositions for chamber ensembles, chorus, brass ensembles, orchestra, and band. About this recording Charles Knox writes: "In writing chamber music, I have always thought that I am composing first for the performer. Within my eclectic 20th century style (I know my style must be regarded as conservative 20th century even as we enter the 21st century), I want the performer to be musically challenged and, in the end, to feel that the effort was worth it - that he or she feels that a valid musical statement has been made to his or her audience. The pieces on this CD include some of my latest efforts with this in mind. I hope the wonderful performers may convince the listener that I have made statements worthy of their and the listener's time." | |||||
