Jessye Norman celebrates Christmas in two beautiful cathedral settings. "Jessye Norman at Christmas" combines two outstanding Christmas programmes that were hugely successful on VHS. The first was Christmastide, a carol concert filmed in the UK, at Ely's stunning Gothic cathedral in 1987, and including many favourite classic carols such as 'Silent Night' and 'Adeste fideles'. This wonderful, atmosopheric occasion is twinned with a sacred concert from France's most famous Gothic cathedral, Notre Dame in Paris. Filmed in the early 1990s, this second programme focussed on sacred music, featuring popular works by Handel, Bach, Bizet and Gounod, as well as several Gospel songs from America. The DVD also features a new DTS 5.1 Surround, as well as LPCM Stereo. Featuring Chœur Régional Vittoria d’Île de France · Maîtrise de Radio France · Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon · Lawrence Foster · The American Boychoir · Ely Cathedral Choristers · Vocal Arts Chorus · Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra · Robert De Cormier.
