|
"The balance of the soloist remains noticeably forward, the solo timbre very tangible and realistic, but the integration with the orchestra is more convincing than on LP, especially in the Schumann, a fine performance which makes the very most of the slow movement and the finale. Kremer's approach is less extrovert here, while in the Sibelius he seeks to dominate and the engineers have helped him to do so. Yet the reading is not without poetry and the long musing solo paragraphs, often sparsely accompanied, gain much from the silent background. Orchestral tuttis are strong, Muti sees to that, whereas in the Schumann he joins Kremer's more introspective mood." -- Ivan March, Gramophone review of original CD release EMI 47110 - Schumann and Sibelius Concertos |
